Pleurobrachiidae
Among the most delicate and fragile animals on the planet. Though comb jellies look a lot like jellyfishes, they can be distinguished from the latter by the external bands of short comb-like structures which run from the top to the bottom of the animal. These combs have row upon row of tiny hairs called cilia that beat propelling the jelly forward.
Planktonic, open ocean.
Plankton feeders catching their prey with special stucky cells called colloblasts.
NZ comb jellies have been studied very little and many more species may be undiscovered, especially in the Deep Sea.
