This shark is easily identified by its protruding mouth full of needle-like teeth and its sword-like snout. When alive it is grey/brown tinged with pink. One of the strangest sharks. The goblin shark was first discovered in Japanese waters, further discoveries have been found scattered throughtout the world, the largest reaching almost 4m. In New Zealand the largest found found was almost 2.5m.

Deep water,open ocean....not seen often.

Very little is known about this shark although it is thought they find their prey by detecting their electrical fields. Goblin shark teeth have been found in large submarine electrical cables when hauled to the surface.
