This has curved tips, a chevron (like a sergeants stripes!) surface pattern, and reproductive structures near the top of the curved, flattened tips. It has one or more primary blades which are parallel sided but wider at the tips than at the base. Grows to 20 cm high and 1.5cm wide. Attached by a disc shaped holdfast and stolons (adhesive tendrils). Colour is dark reddish brown to crimson. The texture is firm.
Shallow to deep subtidal on solid surfaces often on mud or sand. In sheltered water.
Uses the sun's energy for photosynthesis.
