The plants are small (under 4cm) tufted, erect and usually filamentous and much branched. The holdfast is a basal cluster of of unicellular rhizoids. The colour is golden to pale greenish brown. The texture is very soft and flaccid.
These plants are often epiphytic on a wide range of seaweeds at and below low water spring.
Uses sun's energy for photosynthesis.
