A gaudy nudibranch whose colour is very variable. The mantle is white to cream or yellow near the margins and large variable spots cover the the entire surface of the mantle, the spots are usually a vibrant orange in colour and the gills are a deep pink.


Clown nudibranchs are found in many different habitats, from rocky reefs to cliff faces and boulders in the rocky intertidal, down to depths of 40m. They are found and common in the northern half of the North Island and Southern Australia.


Predator on sponges and sea anemones.
