Trochidae
The shell is solid and depressed. Shaped and marked like a spoked wheel. Background colour is cream or pink and streaked with reddish brown, often with a metallic copper sheen. Very abundant.
Shallow subtidal bars off sandy beaches on semi-exposed to exposed coasts.
Unusually this is mainly a filter feeder or mucous net feeder. It secretes a chain of mucous bubbles which trap particles, this is then slurped up and digested.
