This large sea star has a tough upper skin covered in small spines or rounded plates. It can be lavender grey to orange in colour.
This star is found from low tide to below the water and is common around mussel beds.
It is a predator feeding mainly on bivalves.
It has a strong grip on the rock surface using its tube feet.
