Six different species found throughout NZ some very localised. Some species have very swollen clumped side branches others are narrower and elongated. All plants have floats and their stipes bend back on themselves.
Attached to rocks low tide level to subtidal.
Uses the sun's energy for photosynthesis.
Species with swollen clumped side branches are great chopped into a green salad or used to make salsa.
