Colour mottled in several shades from grey through to green and reddish brown. The carapace (back of the body) is smooth and does not have teeth on the edges.

These crabs are found on the rocky shore from high tide level down to about mid tide level. They do not tolerate prolonged immersion in water.

They are scavengers feeding on dead animals and plants.
