The shell is very broadly conical and the body whorl is sharply angled at the base. There are many spiral ribs with flattened elongated beads on them. The shell is pinkish buff with light brown beads and ribs. Those from deeper water tend to be taller than shallow water animals.
Frequently found on sandy or muddy bottom off sandy beaches. They are found from 20 to several hundred metres deep.
Feed on tube worms and hydroids.
