A small brooding anemone, smooth and velvety to the touch, can be yellow, olive, blue or deep brown. It has a distinct margin around the upper body. It has four rows of tentacles which can number up to 96. The disc aroundx the mouth is flat and transluscent green or brown, can have a phosphorescent glow.

It is found on the low rocky intertidal to shallow subtidal attached to brown seaweeds especially Zigzag weed and varous kelps.

It preys upon small invertebrates.

The body can be folded into a groove and acts as a simple brood chamber.
