This plant has many erect, fan-shaped fronds, with concentric zones at tips. branches are flattened and linear and expand to round fan shapes. Grows to 30cm. Attaches with a large holdfast, the colour is dark brown with distinct golden tips. The texture is firm.
Found in intertidal pools and from the lower intertidal zone to 1-5m depth. On rocks on open wave-exposed shores.
Uses the sun's energy for photosynthesis.
