Bright green tubular plants related to sea lettuce, they form long, unbranched, crinkled or smooth ribbons or tubes. Very variable in size. May grow in clumps, which can form fine carpets. Colour ranges from yellowish-green to bright green to dark green, lighter colours may have a dark base.
Can survive freshwater input, often found in the upper intertidal in stagnant or brackish pools. Can be found in areas of high pollution. Can be found from the upper to the lower shore, in both sheltered and exposed conditions.
Uses sun's energy.
